![]() ![]() You presumably set up a share in your router SAMBA with a specific user name & password. It should appear in the left panel of Finder under "Shares" This is the share you should be connecting to in Mac Finder. "Network Place/SAMBA" is file serving by a specific (Micro$oft) protocol. "Media Server" is a DLNA server ie something TV's & related devices know how to connect to. My smasung tv, bluray player etc can Find the HDD (called 'media') and play media etc just my macbook pro having problems connecting to HDD that connected to router. It's frustrating as i used to be able to copy media files, delete, move them wirelessly etc but now have to disconnect HDD from router and connect it phisically to mac every time i want to add, delete files etc. ![]() I also have it called Media (device name).Īny help much appreciated as I don't know what to do and try. I think thats because i have 'Media Server' On in Asus router. I've only owned my macbook pro just over a year so not a expert to know what to try on my mac.īoth 'Media Server' and 'Network Place/SAMBA Share' are turned on in router like they always have been, nothing changed.Īnother thing i noticed, when i did a full format and reinstall of EL Capitan, in Finder sidebar it found my HDD on router as it showed like a symbol with the text 'Media' next to it in Finder sidebar i never saw it appear before but it did briefly then disappeared and not seen it since. i don't know maybe a newer version of SAMBA or something. I think it's something to do with my mac not supporting. I thought it was my router and did a full reset using Asus firmware restoration tool on mac, reset and cleared NVRAM and still same. I formatted and did fresh install of OS X El Capitan 10.11.4 and problem still persists. Please contact your system administrator to resolve the problem.' The version of the server you are trying to connect to is not supported. On my macbook pro (mid 2014) i select 'Go' from the Finder bar and choose 'connect to server' i enter my router IP 'smb://192.168.1.1' and then enter my router login details but it comes up on macbook pro saying 'There was a problem connecting to the server “Media”. Previously up until approximately 8 weeks ago i was able to connect to my hard drive that's connected to the asus router via USB3 via SAMBA on my macbook pro. On there are media files videos, pics etc. I have a external HDD connected to my router via USB3. I download SMBup and when i open the program it show me that i should download samba, so i tried but it don't work to the end of the installation.I own a Asus RT-AC68U router running latest firmware beta version 9.0.0.4.380.2695, problem also existed on previous two/three firmwares as well which weren't beta. I wanted to download and install SMBup but during the installation of Samba it don't goes to the end. now i download MRMC an the same error2 comes in the screen. ![]() Hello, i am from Germany sorry for my bad english at first: You will open it up and add the drives you want to share and press start. You need to use an app on your iMac called SMBup If I manually enter an SMB site " smb://192.168.1.2" with proper username and password - I get - "operation time out"Īny ideas on how to connect to a remote share on the same network? I selected Windows File Sharing ( SMB) - and I get an Error 2: share not available. On the iMac side, I have SMB sharing on (and have connected Infuse on ATV4). I go to add a source and can't seem to get it done. I am trying to connect MrMC on ATV4 to a remote share on my iMac. Zyprexa wrote:This is a real basic question sorry for starting a new thread.
